This paper asks you to watch a film on contemporary immigration in the US context and write an analytic paper using what we have learned about contemporary immigration. I give you a list of recommended movie, show, and documentary below for your convenience, but you are free to choose any other film as long as it has sufficient immigration-related contents to discuss about. It is also OK to read a fictional/non-fictional book if you would like to.
In the introduction, provide a brief summary of the film’s plot. If you choose a show, you can just briefly explain the background and characters and explain a few episodes that you want to talk about.
In the body, discuss the plot/episodes sociologically. How are the plot/episodes related to the topics learned from the course? Please use at least two of the following topics:
Race and Ethnicity
Identity, Religion, Culture
Ethnic Enclave and Communities
Generational Differences (1st, 2nd, 3rd+)
Immigration and Gender
In the conclusion, you may comment on the implications of the messages about these topics and offer an assessment of the film. Note that this is more than just your opinion, it is your conclusion based on the analysis you have provided.
The assignment should be more than 3 pages long, written in a 12-point standard font double-spaced with one-inch margins, with proper APA-format citations.
