Assignment #1: Three-Generation Interview
This assignment asks you to conduct personal/family history interviews with each of first-, second- or third-generation of immigrants. The purpose of these interviews is to relate the social concepts, theories, and patterns of contemporary migration that are explained throughout this course to individuals and discuss them in specific contexts. You can choose any individuals that fit this purpose, including yourself and your family members. The three individuals do not have to belong to a same family.
There are no fixed interview questions or formats for this assignment so you can be creative. You can weave the three generation stories like a long narrative using the themes and topics covered in the course, or you can just list short answers of each interviewee and compare them to analyze how they are different across generations. This assignment is a kind of experimental, introductory essay. You will get a full grade if I can see you have put reasonable efforts.
The assignment should be more than 4 pages long, written in a 12-point standard font double-spaced with one-inch margins, with proper APA-format citations.
